WACO, Texas --- The Baylor soccer team begins preparation for the 2007 season as the squad has reported to camp and will open two-a-day practices on Tuesday, August 14, at 9:00 a.m. Head coach George Van Linder and his squad open the season on Friday, August 31, at 7:00 p.m. against Louisiana-Lafayette at Betty Lou Mays Field.
"We are excited to get the 2007 season underway," Van Linder said. "We return almost every player from last year's team; so, we are very optimistic about the upcoming season. I know the team is excited to get to work and get the year started."
Baylor returns 10 starters and 22 letter-winners from last year's team that advanced to the Big 12 Conference Championship for the first time since 2001.
Ashley Noah, a first-team All-Big 12 Conference selection at goalkeeper last season, leads the way for the Bears as she returns for her senior season. Entering the season, Noah is just 63 saves shy of breaking the Big 12 Conference record for most saves in a career, currently held by former Baylor standout Dawn Greathouse (397, 1997-2000).
Sophomore Katie White and senior Pat Roscovius are the leading returning scorers for Baylor this season as the duo finished with five points apiece last year.
Prior to the opener against Louisiana-Lafayette, Baylor will travel to Houston, Texas, for an exhibition match against Houston on Saturday, August 25, at 2:00 p.m.
