WACO, Texas - Freshmen track signees Tiffany Townsend, Whitney Prevost and James Gilreath were named to the USA Today/Track and Field News All-USA Team it was announced this week.
Ten high school boys and girls in five categories were named to the all-star squad. This marks the first All-USA honor for each runner.
Townsend (Killeen, Texas) was a state champion and national leader this spring in both the 100 meters and 200 meters. Her times of 11.21 and 22.84 were the fastest in the nation this season, and set new Texas state records. Townsend also took the 100 meter and 200 meter crowns in the 2007 Great Southwest Classic. She placed fourth in the 100 meters and third in the 200 meters at the Nike Outdoor Nationals. During the indoor season, Townsend won National Scholastic Indoor Championship in the 60 meters (7.32) and 200 meters (23.34).
Prevost (Texas City, Texas) won three gold medals at the Texas state meet, winning the 100 meters (10.45), 200 meters (20.99) and long jump (23-03). He won the 100 meters and took second in the 200 meters at the 2007 Golden West Invitational. Prevost won the 200 meters and took fifth in the 100 meters at the Nike Outdoor Nationals. Prevost's top time in the 100 meters (10.45) ranks 15th overall in the nation this year and eighth among high school seniors. His 200 meter time of 20.99 is the eighth best time overall this season and sixth-best among high school seniors.
Gilreath (Bartlett, Tenn.) won the 400 meters (47.33) and the 800 meters (1:57.31) at the Tennessee state meet. He placed second at the Nike Outdoor Nationals in the 800 meters with a time of 1:49.98. Gilreath's time of 1:49.98 in the 800 meters is the fourth-best time in the nation, and ranks third among high school seniors. His top time of 46.62 in the 400 meters ranks eighth overall and sixth among high school seniors.
All three All-USA performers will enroll at Baylor this fall and begin training for the 2008 indoor and outdoor track seasons.
