LeJerald Betters qualified for the Saturday finals in the men's open 400 meters in Baylor's lone action at the 2007 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships at the Alex G. Spanos Sports Complex.
Betters (Waco, Texas) clocked a time of 46.16 to finish fifth in his heat, and eighth overall, in the 400 meter semifinals. The reigning Big 12 Outdoor Freshman of the Year received one of the two timed berths in the event finals to be run on Saturday at 10:37 a.m. PDT.
"I'm glad for LeJerald that he made it to the finals," said assistant coach Michael Ford. "I'm excited because he earned All-American status. His race was ok. He needs to get out on his start a little better, and needs to work his first 200 meters a little more, but he should run well tomorrow."
Baylor is scheduled to compete in three events in Saturday's nationally-televised finals. Betters runs the 400 meters at 10:37 a.m., Reggie Witherspoon (Marietta, Ga.) competes in the men's 200 meters at 10:51 a.m., and the men's 4x400-meter relay runs at 11:36 a.m. All times are Pacific Daylight Time, and live results can be found at ncaasports.com.
