Bears Second in Sprint Medley Relay

AUSTIN, Texas - Baylor lowered its best time in the 4x100-meter relay, and the Bears took second place in the sprint medley relay during the second day of competition at the 80th Clyde Littlefield Texas Relays at Mike A. Myers Stadium on Friday.
The men's 4x100-meter relay team lowered its season-best time in the preliminary rounds, finishing second to Florida State in 39.89. The Bears, who clocked their previous best time of 39.91 at the Stanford Invitational last week, will compete in the event finals tomorrow at 2 p.m.
Baylor's men's sprint medley relay team won its heat in 3:19.04 to finish second overall. Trey Harts (Lake Charles, La.) and Reggie Witherspoon (Marietta, Ga.) ran the first two 200-meter legs of the relay to put the Bears in second place. Quentin Iglehart-Summers (San Antonio, Texas) brought Baylor closer to the lead with a quick 400-meter leg before Kevin Mutai (Round Rock, Texas) finished the race with the 800-meter leg to overtake Florida State 20 meters from the finish.
Courtney Thomas (Kilgore, Texas), who ran the third leg of the 4x100-meter relay, came back to post a season-best 10.45 in the men's 100 meters. Thomas won his heat, but finished 10th overall to miss qualifying for the event finals tomorrow.
Baylor's women's 4x400-meter relay team finished second in its heat with a time of 3:39.60. Baylor finished 11th overall, just missing the event finals on Saturday.
Ruth Waller (Manchester, England) finished seventh in the women's 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:01.82.
The Lady Bears 4x100-meter relay team finished second in their heat with a time of 45.88, but did not qualify for the event finals.
Kaleigh Teel (Friendswood, Texas) tied her career-best jump of 3.65 meters (11-11.75) in the women's pole vault to tie for 15th overall.
Kim Brown (Waco, Texas) set a new personal best in the women's 100-meter hurdles with a time of 14.53 to finish fifth in her heat. Jeremy Jackson (Round Rock, Texas) clocked 14.60 to place fourth in his heat of the men's 110-meter hurdles.
Brown also competed in the women's long jump, finishing 16th overall with a leap of 5.43 meters (17-09.75).
The Bears return to action on Saturday with the finals of the 4x100-, 4x200-, 4x400-, and distance medley relays in the final day of the Texas Relays.
