WACO, Texas - Baylor men's tennis team, ranked at the No. 4 spot for the fourth consecutive week, will travel to Athens, Georgia to face top-ranked University of Georgia Thursday, April 12 at 5 p.m. central time.
With two victories Tuesday against St. Edwards and UT-Arlington, the Bears earned their 11th consecutive win to remain undefeated on the home court. The Bears are currently 18-2 overall this season and 2-0 in conference play, while the Bulldogs hold a 21-0 overall record. Georgia leads the series against Baylor 2-1. Baylor's last match up with Georgia was last year at the 2006 NCAA Championships when the Bears were defeated in the semifinal round, 4-3.
"Georgia has proven to have the best team in the country this year. It's a nice opportunity to go and see how we stack up against the best team," head coach Matt Knoll said. "We know they'll be prepared and extremely difficult to beat in Athens."
Leading the Bears is Lars Poerschke, tied at the No. 13 spot. No 16 Michal Kokta, No. 93 Dominik Mueller and No. 124 Matija Zgaga also received honors in the latest Fila/ITA collegiate rankings. In doubles, with an 8-1 overall record, Zgaga and David Galic earned honors at the No. 18 spot.
In the competition, Josh Isner is the top-ranked player in the nation, while Travis Helgeson ranks at the No. 11 spot. No. 17 Luis Flores, No. 43 Matic Omerzel, No. 78 Jamie Hunt and No. 92 Nate Schnugg also received honors. In doubles, Georgia's duo of Isner and Flores hold the No. 1 spot, while No. 13 Omerzel and Helgeson and No. 25 Isner and Josh Varela also earned honors.
The Bears are back in action Sunday, April 15 when they travel to Lubbock to face Texas Tech at 2 p.m. central time.
