WACO, Texas - The Baylor track and field teams are set to compete in the 33rd annual Stanford Invitational at Cobb Track and Angell Field in Palo Alto, Calif. on Friday and Saturday.
Last year, Baylor earned seven event victories and recorded 13 regional qualifying marks in the two-day event. The men's and women's team both swept the relay events, winning the 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter races. In addition, the Bears swept the top four spots in the men's quarter-mile, with Quentin Iglehart-Summers (San Antonio, Texas) claiming the victory in 46.98.
The Bears opened their outdoor season in impressive fashion at the 2007 Dr Pepper Invitational, picking up 22 event victories and clocking 11 regional qualifying times.
Courtney Thomas (Kilgore, Texas) led the way for Baylor with regional qualifying times in the 100 meters, 200 meters, and 4x100-meter relay. Jacob Norman (Temple, Texas) picked up regional marks in the 100 meters and 4x100-meter relay, while Trey Harts (Lake Charles, La.) won the 200 meters with a regional time and ran second leg on the 4x100-meter relay.
Brittany Devereaux (Denton, Texas) qualified for the regional meet in the discus throw, and broke the six-year old school record in the women's hammer throw.
The women's 4x100-meter and 4x400-meter relays both set regional qualifying marks, and DeAna Carson (Long Beach, Calif.) recorded a personal best and qualifying jump in the long jump.
Some of the top colleges track and field programs will be competing including Alabama, Arkansas, Baylor, Boston College, Brown, Butler, BYU, Colorado, Columbia, Florida State, Georgetown, Illinois, Indiana, Iona, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma State, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina State, Penn State, Stanford, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia and Wake Forest, along with all 10 members of the Pac-10 Conference.
