WACO, Texas - Baylor junior Kevin Rogers was named Phillips 66 Big 12 Conference Player of the Week after leading the Bears to two road victories last week that snapped a 25-game losing streak on opponent home courts, the league announced Wednesday.
The honor is a career first for Rogers, and the second player of the week award for a Baylor player this season, joining Curtis Jerrells who was so honored on Nov. 19. This marks only the second year two Baylor players have been honored as Big 12 Players of the Week. It is the third total award for Bears players this season, as LaceDarius Dunn received rookie of the week honors Nov. 26.
Rogers averaged 16.5 points and 11.0 rebounds and registered two double-doubles while leading Baylor to road wins at South Carolina and Southern. The 92-84 victory at USC was Baylor's first true road win since a win at Purdue in 2004. Rogers had a 12-point, 12-rebound double-double vs. South Carolina.
The junior from Dallas scored a game-high 21 points in Baylor's 71-60 win at Southern, and added 10 rebounds and two blocks.
Rogers has helped Baylor to a 9-1 record this season, and is averaging 13.0 points and a team-high 7.9 rebounds (fifth in Big 12). He has recorded four double-doubles, seven blocks and is shooting 55.6 percent from the field (fifth in Big 12).
Also honored along with Rogers was rookie of the week Michael Beasley of Kansas State. The players are selected by a media panel which covers Big 12 men's basketball.
Rogers and the Bears return to action Saturday when they host Prairie View A&M at the Ferrell Center at 7 p.m.
