WACO, Texas - Junior Curtis Jerrells was selected as the Phillips 66 Big 12 Men's Basketball Player of the Week the league office announced on Monday. The player of the week award, voted on by a panel of media covering the conference, is the first for Baylor in five years.

Jerrells helped Baylor start 3-0 for the first time under head coach Scott Drew as the Bears won twice last week. The junior guard averaged 20.0 points and 7.5 rebounds in victories over Wichita State (64-55) and Notre Dame (68-64). He posted a game-high 23 points versus the Shockers, connecting on 8-of-16 shots from the field.

He led the team with 17 points and seven boards against the Fighting Irish, including the go-ahead 3-pointer to give BU its first lead of the game with 3:15 remaining. On the week, he was 11-of-24 (.458) from the field, 7-of-13 (.538) from beyond the arc and 11-of-12 (.917) from the free throw line.

Jerrells' selection marks the eighth time a Baylor player has received a Big 12 Player of the Week honor and the first since Lawrence Roberts in Feb. of 2003. The Bears are back in action on Monday night in the championship game of the 2007 Paradise Jam. Baylor will face Winthrop with tip off at 7:30 p.m. CST/9:30 p.m. AST and will be televised live nationally on Fox College Sports-Pacific.
