WACO, Texas -- The Baylor women's soccer team is set to open two-a-day practices on Thursday, August 10, as the team reports to campus in preparation for the 2006 season opener against Northwestern State.
The preseason practices will lead up to the Bears season opener against the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on Friday, August 25, at Betty Lou Mays Field.
"We are extremely excited about the start of the 2006 season," head coach George Van Linder said. "Everybody on the team is excited to get back to campus and get started with practice. We return several of our top players and have a talented incoming class, which should make for an exciting season."
The Bears return 13 letter-winners and six starters from last year's squad, including leading point-scorer and sophomore forward Amanda McGrath. In addition, Baylor returns its entire defense from a season ago, including junior defenders Megan Sherrell and Rose Zapata as well as starting goalkeeper Ashley Holder.
