After spending its first two practices in helmets and shorts per NCAA rules, the Baylor football team put on the shoulder pads for Sunday's workout, which was split between the grass practice fields and Floyd Casey Stadium due to weather.
"We had a good night on both sides of the ball," said Baylor coach Guy Morriss. "We got on them last night and again today about their tempo and effort in Saturday's practice. They responded like we hoped that they would.
"We don't expect them to come out and execute letter-perfect this time of the year, but I want to see guys having fun," he added. "For an 18-year-old kid, this is the best job in the world."
The Bears' defensive unit was still without the services of senior nose tackle M.T. Robinson (sore hamstring) and senior defensive end Julian Hill (sore knee), but senior defensive end Marcus Foreman saw his most extensive work of fall camp after being sidelined by a muscle strain during the squad's first two practices.
Sophomore wide receiver Mikail Baker, who injured his hamstring during Saturday's practice, was held out of the Sunday evening workout. Senior wide receiver Dominique Zeigler was also slowed by a sore hamstring for the second straight practice, while sophomore wide receiver Thomas White tweaked his hamstring during the evening practice. Senior cornerback Alton Widemon (hip pointer) and sophomore offensive guard Dan Gay (sprained ankle) were also injured during the practice.
"A lot of times those older guys getting hurt can be a blessing because then you are forced to put some time and reps into those young guys and really find out if they can do it or not," Morriss said. "That's been the case so far. Those young guys are getting plenty of reps."
The Bears will return to the practice field Monday at 6 p.m. All practices are open to the public.
