With Central Texas temperatures hovering over 100 degrees at the start of practice, Coach Guy Morriss' Bears drilled for 2 hours and 15 minutes in half pads Tuesday evening on the grass practice fields at Floyd Casey Stadium.

"It was a good day, the kids are working hard," said Morriss, whose team started practice when it was a comfortable 104.1 degrees in Waco. "They are pushing through it, but it is a grind. We are almost to hump day, but we are pleased with it. We picked it up offensively toward the end of team.

"We put them (the offense) on the 25-second clock today, so things speeded up a little bit," he added. "When we start getting plays into them with time enough for them to see things and make their calls, we really picked it up pretty good. Overall, I was pleased with today's effort. We still have a ways to go, but we have time to get it done."

Injuries continue to sideline several players, including senior defensive end Julian Hill (sore knee), senior center Yancy Boatner (concussion), senior offensive tackle Travis Farst (knee), freshman cornerback Roman James (hip-flexor), freshman wide receiver Garfield Hicks (hip-flexor), redshirt freshman defensive tackle Trey Bryant (groin) and freshman offensive lineman Dylan Hagens (sore back). New to the Bears' injury report are senior linebacker Paul Howard (knee), freshman inside receiver Justin Fenty (sore hamstring) and sophomore inside receiver Queito Teasley (sore hamstring). Junior cornerback Braelon Davis was also held out of practice to rest his knee.

In addition, senior preseason All-America punter Daniel Sepulveda continues to be sidelined while recovering from April knee surgery.

Four Bears--senior offensive guard Will Blaylock (muscle strain), sophomore offensive guard Dan Gay (sprained ankle), junior inside receiver Terrance Parks (hamstring) and sophomore inside receiver Carl Sims (hamstring) went through all phases of practice except the contact periods for the second straight day.

Notes:Redshirt freshman defensive end Cooper Calhoun, who hails from Garland, Texas, has replaced Michael Slaughter on the Bears' 105-man preseason camp roster ... Baylor returns to practice Wednesday at 6 p.m. ... Baylor will hold its annual "Meet the Bears" Day on Saturday, Aug. 19, at 4 p.m. inside Floyd Casey Stadium.
