PALO ALTO, Calif. - Continuing to breeze through the NCAA singles tournament, Baylor's two participants have won their way into the round of 16. Zuzana Zemenova, the 2005 NCAA singles champion, and Zuzana Cerna, in her first tournament appearance, have picked a pair of wins each over the last two days to secure a match in the Sweet 16. Both Bears will play Friday at the Taube Tennis Center on Stanford's campus in Palo Alto, Calif.
In Thursday's round of 32, fourth-seeded Zemenova defeated Notre Dame's Catrina Thompson in straight sets, 6-3, 6-2. In the next round, Zemenova will face off against California's Suzi Babos.
Cerna earned her 47th win of the season when she bested Virginia Tech's Inga Beermann 6-2, 6-1in Thursday's round of 32.
