WACO, Texas - The Sacramento Monarchs, reigning WNBA champions, today announced the roster for the 2006 WNBA regular season. New additions to the team include: two free agents, Brittany Wilkins and Chameka Scott; and rookies Kim Smith, selected by Sacramento in the first round (13th overall) and Scholanda Dorrell, also selected in the first round (14th overall).
Scott, a native of Friendswood, Texas, recently completed four seasons with the Lady Bears and was part of the 2005 NCAA national championship and Big 12 Conference championship teams. A defensive specialist for the Lady Bears, Scott, a two-year starter, started 68 of 69 games over the past two seasons. A 2006 All-Big 12 honorable mention, Scott ranks No. 3 on Baylor's career 3-point attempts (362) list, No. 5 on its all-time 3-pointers made (123) chart, T-No. 6 in career games played (124) and No. 8 in career 3-point percentage (.340). Her 47 made 3-pointers equaled the ninth-best single-season effort in school history and marked second straight year she landed on school's top 10 list (had 49 made treys as a junior in 2004-05 to rank T-No. 5), while her 148 3-point attempts as a senior ranked No. 4 on BU one-year list.
On Saturday, May 20, the Monarchs will be nationally televised on ABC, for the WNBA's Opening Day, against the Phoenix Mercury, at 1:00 p.m. PDT, at ARCO Arena, to include the Championship Ring Ceremony.
