No. 8 Women's Tennis Shuts Out Wildcats

MANHATTAN, Kan. - Baylor remains undefeated in conference play this spring as the Bears shut out Kansas State 7-0 this afternoon in Manhattan, Kan. Overall Baylor's women's tennis team has posted an 18-3 mark which includes its 7-0 Big 12 record. Today's doubles point was the first earned by Baylor in the last seven meetings, and the sweep of all six singles matches is Baylor's fifth in a row.

In doubles, Zuzana Zemenova and Zuzana Krchnakova bested Maria Perevoschikova and Tereza Prochazkova 8-4 first on court three while No. 38 Zuzana Cerna and Klara Zrustova defeated Jessica Simosa and Katerina Kudlackova 8-4 on court one to clinch the point. At No. 2, Kansas State's Fernanda Da Valle and Olga Klimova fought out of a 5-2 hole and won an 8-5 decision over Baylor's Daniela Covello and Iva Mihaylova to avoid the sweep.

For the seventh time this spring, the Bears tallied all six singles points against their opponents. Krchnakova started off the run for Baylor as she defeated Prochazkova 6-0, 6-0 on court six. Next No. 11 Cerna extended her current winning streak to 13 with her 6-0, 6-2 victory over Simosa on court two. In the match-clincher for Baylor, No. 120 Mihaylova cleaned up on court five as she posted a 6-1, 6-0 win against Olga Klimova to give Baylor the overall 4-0 lead.

Finishing up the remainder of the singles matches, No. 4 Zememova earned a BU point with a 6-1, 6-3 score over Perevoschikova on court one. Kansas State's Kudlackova and Da Valle each jumped out to 6-3 first-set victories in their matches, but dropped the second set and the tie-break to the Bears. No. 104 Covello finished off Kudlackova on court three to tally a 3-6, 6-1, 10-7 victory while No. 101 Zrustova finished last with her 3-6, 6-1, 10-4 win over De Valle.

Baylor will look to extend its winning streak tomorrow as Kansas will play host to the Bears. Baylor has now won seven-straight matches. The match in Lawrence, Kan., is scheduled to begin at 11 a.m.
