DES MOINES, Iowa - In chilly, rainy conditions, the Baylor men's 4x400-meter relay of freshman R.J. Anderson (Big Pine Key, Fla.), junior Kevin Mutai (Round Rock, Texas), senior Wil Fitts (DeSoto, Texas) and freshman Quentin Iglehart-Summers (San Antonio, Texas) ran 3:07.28 for the nearly a one-second victory over Florida and two seconds better than the rest of the field at the 97th Drake Relays Saturday at Drake Stadium.
The men's sprint medley relay of freshman Queito Teasley (Katy, Texas), junior Reggie Witherspoon (Marietta, Ga.), Iglehart-Summers and Fitts also claimed a victory by nearly three seconds with a time of 3:21.26.
The women's 4x100-meter relay of senior Marquisha Sefas (Ft. Worth, Texas), Tucker, Perkins and Grace clocked an outstanding winning time of 44.14 to lower their season-best mark by nearly half of a second.
"Overall, we had an outstanding meet even though we had one relay (women's 4x200) taken away from us on a bogus call and got beat at the tape on the women's 4x4," head coach Todd Harbour said. "I don't know of any other teams that won three relays here and we broke two school records. We came out of here with everyone healthy, so I'm pleased with what we accomplished this weekend."
The women's 4x400-meter relay of freshman Katrina Taylor (Baton Rouge, La.), junior Kandace Tucker (Irving, Texas), sophomore Carla Grace (San Antonio, Texas) and senior Angel Perkins (Cerritos, Calif.) was clipped at the tape by Houston to finish second with a time of 3:32.58.
The women's sprint medley relay of Tucker, senior Marquisha Sefas (Ft. Worth, Texas), Perkins and freshman Erin Bedell (Plano, Texas) also finished second with a time of 3:52.44.
The women's 4x1,600-meter relay of junior Ruth Waller (Manchester, England), freshman Charity Williams (Corpus Christi, Texas), sophomore Lyndsy Bedell (Plano, Texas) and junior Monique Ortega (El Paso, Texas) broke the school record with a time of 20:03.94 to finish fifth.
The men's distance medley relay of sophomore Rey Hinojosa (Cedar Park, Texas), Anderson, Mutai and senior Bo Price (Atlanta, Texas) finished fourth with a time of 9:50.96.
Senior Jerome Miller (Houston, Texas) clocked 13.97 against a strong wind to finish third in the special 110-meter hurdles and was the only collegian invited in that heat. Sophomore Lauren Hagans (Little Rock, Ark.) finished seventh in the special 800 meters with a time of 2:09.57.
