Final Stats
WACO, Texas - Baylor's women's tennis team defeated Nebraska this afternoon 6-1 to extend its winning streak to three. Hoping to continue its drive, Baylor will host Oklahoma State tomorrow afternoon at the Baylor Tennis Center.
Baylor clinched the first points by winning the doubles matches on court one and two. Zuzana Zemenova and Daniela Covello defeated Imke Reimers and Ewelina Skaza 8-4 first while Zuzana Cerna and Zuzana Krchnakova bested Nebraska's Ellinor Zugner and Pamela Castillejos 8-4 also. The last doubles match on court two went to a tie-breaker once Nebraska's Kim Hartmann and Milena Schulz-Gartner rallied to even the score with Baylor's Klara Zrustova and Iva Mihaylova. 7-7. The Bears earned the first point but the Cornhuskers fought back to win four straight points before eventually winning the tie-breaker 7-3 and the match 8-7.
The Bears looked to close the match early with quick singles points and Krchnakova helped get the streak going. Krchnakova defeated Skaza 6-1, 6-2 on court six to earn Baylor's second point. Soon after No. 88 Zrustova blew past Vanessa Heute 6-1, 6-1 on court three and No. 97 Covello earned a 6-1, 6-0 victory over Schulz-Gartner to clinch Baylor's overall win.
No. 12 Zemenova continued to dominate on court one as she bested Hartmann 6-2, 6-1. On court two, No. 16 Cerna battled with Nebraska's only ranked player, No. 100 Reimers. Cerna tallied Baylor's sixth point with her 6-3, 6-4 win. And finally on court five, Mihaylova faced Castillejos. Early in the first set, Mihaylova was down 5-3 before fighting back to win 7-5. In the second set, Castillejos evened the match at one set each with her 6-4 win. A tie-breaker followed where Mihaylova went down 1-5 before fighting back to tie the score at nines. Eventually, Castillejos rallied to 11 points and won the match giving Nebraska its only point.
Baylor's win this afternoon puts the record this season at 9-2 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
