PALO ALTO, Calif. - The Baylor track and field team will compete in the 32nd Nike Stanford Track and Field Invitational Friday and Saturday at Cobb Track and Angell Field.
The Bears began the outdoor campaign in strong fashion last week at the Dr Pepper Invitational in Waco. Freshman Erin Bedell (Plano, Texas) posted the nation's fastest time in the 1,500 meters at 4:21.37, well below the regional qualifying standard. While Erin will not run at Stanford because she is competing at the World Cross Country Championships in Japan, her sister Lyndsy will compete in the 3,000-meter steeplechase.
Junior Kandace Tucker (Irving, Texas) has the second-fastest time in the country with a 23.41 in the 200 meters, while junior Lauren Tillman (Lawrenceville, Ga.) has the eighth-best time with 1:00.40 in the 400-meter hurdles. In the relays, the women have the second-best time in the 4x400 and the fourth-best in the 4x100-meters. In the field events, sophomore Brittany Devereaux (Denton, Texas) had a regional qualifying mark in the discus.
On the men's side, senior Jerome Miller (Houston, Texas) has the second-fastest time in the nation with a 14.06 in the 110-meter hurdles. Freshman Queito Teasley (Katy, Texas) has the third-best and senior Chris Gillis (Pennsauken, N.J.) has the fifth-best mark in the long jump. The Bears also have the fourth-best time in the 4x400-meter relay.
The action begins Friday at 8:30 a.m. and Saturday at 8 a.m.
