WACO, Texas - The Big 12 Conference announces its Women's Basketball 10th Anniversary Team, as selected by a combined media panel and on-line fan poll, and Baylor's Sophia Young was named to the list.
In order to be eligible for consideration, candidates must have been an All-Big 12 First Team selection at least once in their careers.
Young, a 6-1 senior forward, is the only current player to make the five member list. She is a three-time All-Big 12 selection and has ranked among the league's top five in scoring and rebounding all four seasons. Young was named Big 12 Preseason Player of the Year by the coaches this season. In addition, she is a candidate for national player of the year honors. Young is averaging 20.7 points and 9.9 rebounds a game this season and 17.1 points and 9.4 rebounds for her four-year career.
Anniversary teams are being chosen for each conference sport during the 2005-06 season in celebration of the Big 12's 10th anniversary.
Over 1,800 fans participated in on-line voting through the league's web site. Fan polls will also be conducted this spring for baseball and softball anniversary teams.
