WACO, Texas - Lady Bear signee Danielle Wilson has been selected to the 24-member 2006 McDonald's All-American High School Basketball Team, McDonald's announced Thursday. Wilson, a 6-3 center, is the first Lady Bear recruit to receive McDonald All-American honors.
As one of the country's best high school players, Wilson will play in the McDonald's All American Game in San Diego, Calif., on March 29. The game, played at Cox Arena at 4:30 p.m. (PST), will be broadcast by ESPN 2 on Monday, April 6 at 10 a.m. (PST).
A portion of the proceeds from the game will go to Ronald McDonald House Charities of San Diego and their Ronald McDonald House program. Former beneficiaries of McDonald's All American Games include Sickle Cell Anemia Research, the United Negro College Fund and many other local children's charities. Nearly $5 million has been raised since the Game was first played.
Wilson, a native of Bay Shore, N.Y., attends St. John's the Baptist High School where she averages 30.4 points, 20.2 rebounds and 4.8 blocks a game. She recently scored her 2,000th career point while earning Player of the Year honors from the Catholic High School Athletic Association.
"We are very pleased for Danielle and her high school program that she was named to this prestigious list, the highest honor a high school player can achieve. She is included in some elite company, we are proud of what she has accomplished and glad that she has chosen to join our program," said Baylor head coach Kim Mulkey-Robertson.
