LINCOLN, Neb. - First-year head coach Todd Harbour leads the Baylor track and field team into the 2006 Big 12 Conference Indoor Championships Friday and Saturday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Indoor Track.

The Bears enter the meet with the top times in four men's events (200 meters, 400 meters, 60-meter hurdles, 4x400-meter relay) and two women's events (1,000 meters, distance medley relay).

Some Bears have already assured themselves a spot in the 2006 NCAA Indoor Championships with automatic qualifying times. Freshman Jacob Norman (Temple, Texas) has an automatic qualifying time in the 60 meters, while the women's distance medley relay has also qualified.

The women finished third last year, their highest Big 12 finish since also finishing third in 1999. The men, however, had their lowest finish since Big 12 competition began, placing ninth.

Baylor claimed three event titles at the 2005 Big 12 Indoor Championships, with Elizabeth Wilson setting the school record en route to winning the 200 meters. Darold Williamson claimed his second indoor conference crown in the 400 meters, then anchored the Bears' 4x400-meter relay to its eighth straight title.

Following the championships, there is one more opporunity to qualify for the national championships at the Last Chance Meet March 4 in Ames, Iowa. The NCAA Indoor Championships will be held March 11-12 in Fayetteville, Ark.
