WACO, Texas - Off the Court with Bernice Mosby will run periodically during the 2006-07 season. Join the senior forward and tri-captain Bernice Mosby as she takes fans on a behind-the-scenes look at the Lady Bears' season.
A lot has happened since I wrote my last journal. I guess I'll begin with the LSU game. Wow, the win against LSU was big for us! We all knew it was going to be a battle to the end, and it was. I must say, throughout my collegiate career, I've never beaten LSU and that got me more hyped about the game.
Coming out the tunnel, watching, and hearing the crowd made me feel blessed to be at this University because not many women's basketball teams get the kind of support we get from our fans. It was crazy on campus, everyone was talking about the game and I was just ready for us to show what we could do. We also knew if we lost that, the trip to the Bahamas wasn't going to be that much fun. I tell you that was the most exciting game of my career and everyday I thank God for giving me the ability to play.
After the game, we all went out to eat at Cheddars but I was so tired and drained from the game that I went to sleep and started thinking about the Bahamas and getting a tan. Then I thought, I don't need a tan I am dark skinned.
I am still trying to get over our time in the Bahamas. It was a blast, even Coach Mulkey was relaxed and I didn't see any strains in her neck from yelling.
I did something I've never done before, I went snorkeling! Everybody on our team got in the water. The funniest part of the snorkeling trip was Whitney (Jones). See, Whitney can't swim very well and she finally got in the water, but she was holding on to the side of the boat. I tell you these people from Louisiana, but I love that little freshman and was sorry that she decided to go back to Louisiana. Getting back to the snorkeling, it was a sight to remember. Seeing all the beautiful fish and seaweed in the ocean was the prettiest thing I've ever seen in my life. Coach Damion was scared a shark was going to eat him, and yet he's supposed to protect us, being the male coach.
We enjoyed the Caribbean beats and the food was awesome, I think they had the best spaghetti I've ever had in my life. The thing that really made this trip fun and worthwhile was winning the tournament. Everyone had a blast and we accomplished our mission, winning the tournament. If I could go again I would go in a heart beat and wouldn't change a thing. You know it's good to see people laugh and that is what we did the whole time was laugh.
After a few games once we got back, we took a much-needed break. Our bodies may have gotten a break during that period but since it was final exam week, our minds were in overdrive. Thank goodness another semester is behind us!
Yesterday the whole team visited Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center and delivered over 100 teddy bears that our fans donated at our game on Wednesday night. We visited children staying in Kidsville, a children's inpatient unit at Hillcrest as well as the newborn nursery. We were able to bring a lot of smiles to the children's faces and hopefully, we brightened some lives. I know we were all deeply touched by the experience.
We're looking forward to our trip to Los Angeles and then we'll be on to our respective homes to enjoy the holidays with our families.
Hope to see all of you at our two games between Christmas and New Years. If you can't make those games, MAKE SURE you're on hand when we open Big 12 Conference play on Wed., Jan. 3, when we host Texas Tech.
On behalf of the Lady Bears, let me wish all of our fans a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. We cherish and value your friendship and support.
