HOUSTON - The Baylor track & field team hits the road for its first meet of the 2006 season at the Houston Indoor Opener, hosted by the University of Houston Saturday at Yeoman Field House. The Bears will be competing in their first meet under the direction of first-year head coach Todd Harbour.

The Bears return four All-Americans on the men's side - seniors Wil Fitts (800 meters, 4x400-meter relay) and Chris Gillis (long jump) and juniors Kevin Mutai (4x400-meter relay) and Mark Teter (4x400-meter relay) and three All-Americans on the women's side - senior Angel Perkins (4x400-meter relay), junior Brittany Brockman (10,000 meters) and sophomore Carla Grace (4x400-meter relay).

Baylor also added a great crop of freshmen, 14 women and 19 men, some of which are expected to contribute immediately. Erin Bedell (distances), Stasia Kelly-Taylor (sprints, jumps) and Katrina Taylor (sprints) headline the women's group, while sprinters R.J. Anderson, Quentin Iglehart-Summers, Jacob Norman and Sterling Farmer contribute to a much deeper men's squad compared to last year.

The meet begins with the throwing events at 9 a.m., while the running events begin at 12 p.m. The men's 4x400-meter relay is the final event of the day and is slated for 5:40 p.m.
