WACO, Texas - Baylor men's basketball coach Scott Drew announced the team's 2005-2006 schedule Thursday.
The Bear's regular-season schedule includes 16 total games, all Big 12 Conference contests due to NCAA sanctions brought on by the previous coaching staff. Baylor will not play any non-conference games (thought to be unprecedented in modern-day college basketball) and opens its season Jan. 11, 2006, when it faces Texas Tech in Lubbock.
"Our team will definitely be excited to play on Jan. 11," Drew said. "Although we exhausted every avenue with the Big 12 office and our fellow schools in an attempt to move one of our games up to an earlier date, we were unable to do so."
Baylor's eight-game home schedule includes contests vs. the Big 12's five Southern schools plus Iowa State, Kansas State and Missouri from the North. Twelve games on the 16-game schedule are against schools that participated in postseason play last year.
Drew said the team will begin practice Oct. 14 as usual. "During the fall we will be spending a lot of time practicing and working on individual development on the court," Drew said.
Season tickets are on sale and cost between $100 and $140. Individual season tickets are available for adults from $10 to $25 and $6 for youth. Baylor's athletic ticket office numbers are 800-BAYLOR-U and 254-710-1000.
