DALLAS, Texas -- Baylor junior soccer player Anna Schuch was named offensive Big 12 Conference Soccer Player of the Week for her performance against Northwestern State the conference office announced Tuesday. It is the first time in her Baylor career the junior forward has been named conference player of the week.
Schuch earned the honor after scoring three goals in Baylor 7-1 victory over Northwestern State on Friday, Sept. 9. The hat trick was the first for a Baylor player since Oct. 30, 1999, when Courtney Saunders scored four goals in a win over Texas Tech.
The junior also added an assist to give her seven points in the victory, the most for a Baylor player since Saunders registered eight points in the game against Texas Tech. With the scoring outburst, Schuch is now Baylor's leading scorer on the season with eight points. For the week, Schuch recorded eight shots and registered a shot percentage of .375 while posting a shot on goal percentage of .625.
Schuch's selection marks only the second time in school history a Baylor soccer player has been named offensive player of the week. Tamura Crawley is the only other Baylor soccer player to be named offensive player of the week, earning the honor in Sept. 2002.
Sasha Andrews of Nebraska was named Big 12 Conference Defensive Player of the Week honors while Mo Redmond of Missouri was named Big 12 Conference Newcomer of the Week.
Schuch and the rest of the Baylor soccer team will return to action on Thursday, Sept. 15, when the Bears travel to Dallas, Texas, to face SMU at 7:00 p.m. After the meeting with the Mustangs, Baylor will return home to face No. 2 Portland on Sunday, Sept. 18, at 1:00 p.m.
