The Baylor football team went through its 26th and next to last workout in Waco prior to Saturday's season-opener at SMU with a two-hour practice in helmets and shorts Thursday afternoon on the grass fields at Floyd Casey Stadium.

"It was a good practice," said Baylor coach Guy Morriss. "I thought we had good focus. I think we are ready to go play.

"We have to hold onto the football, eliminate turnovers and create turnovers on defense (in Saturday's opener at SMU," he added. "We need to eliminate unforced errors and just go out, have fun and play ball. We've got to turn it loose and go after them."

Baylor will hold a walk-though practice in Waco Friday afternoon before bussing to Dallas late in the day and holding an evening workout at SMU's Gerald J. Ford Stadium.

"I know we are in good condition, we have better people lined up in every spot (then we did a year ago)," Morriss said. "It's a matter now of turning it loose and making plays. If we can do that, then we'll be fine."

Saturday's game between the Bears and Mustangs kicks off at 7:07 p.m. inside SMU's Gerald J. Ford Stadium on the SMU campus.

Notes: True freshman wide receiver David Gettis continues to wait on a decision on his eligibility status from the NCAA Clearinghouse ... Senior wide receivers Ryan Jeffrey (broken left hand) and J Fields (hamstring) missed Thursday's workout as did freshman linebacker Justin Osinde (season-ending knee injury), senior offensive tackle Hunter Herring (knee) and junior offensive tackle Travis Farst (kneecap) ... All five will miss Saturday's opener at SMU according to the team's medical staff ... Included in the Bears' 78-man travel roster to SMU are six true freshmen--wide receiver Mikail Baker (Dallas, Texas), linebacker Antonio Jones (Dallas, Texas), defensive end LeQuantum McDonald (Waco, Texas), wide receiver Carl Sims (Waco, Texas), quarterback Blake Szymanski (Wichita Falls, Texas) and wide receiver Queito Teasley (Katy, Texas) ... Both season and single-game tickets for Baylor's five-game home schedule are on sale through the school's Athletic Ticket Office (1-800-BAYLOR-U).
