WACO, Texas - Baylor University's women's basketball team and the school's men's tennis team will be honored by the Dallas All Sports Association (DASA) at its 40th Annual All-Star Awards Banquet on Tuesday, Sept. 20 in Dallas.
The All-Sports Awards Banquet is DASA's signature event and has been for the past 40 years. Held each year at a major Dallas hotel for more than 1,000 guests, DASA's All-Sports Awards Banquet is a black-tie celebration of scholarship and sports excellence that honors national and regional sports figures with myriad awards and honors, while also honoring deserving underprivileged youth with college scholarships.
This year's banquet will be held at the Fairmont Hotel Ballroom, 1717 North Akard Street in Dallas. The Baylor Lady Bears, 2005 NCAA national champions and Big 12 Conference champions, will receive the Field Scovell Award and head coach Kim Mulkey-Robertson will be honored with the Association's Big 12 Coach of the Year Award. Sophia Young, who led the Lady Bears in both scoring and rebounding over the past two seasons, is the Association's Big 12 Female Athlete of the Year.
Baylor's men's tennis team, led by head coach Matt Knoll, will be honored with the Texas Excellence Award. The tennis team completed the 2004-05 season with a 33-1 record, its fourth straight Big 12 title and finished second in the NCAA Championships. The University of Texas' baseball team and women's outdoor track teams will also receive the Texas Excellence Award.
