BOSHERS AND VICK DuBOSE NAMED 2005 CO-CAPTAINS
Baylor seniors Tiffany Boshers and Bethany Vick DuBose have been chosen by there rest of the team as co-captains for the 2005 season. Boshers, a senior forward and midfielder, is Baylor's returning leading scorer from a year ago as she led the team with nine goals and 19 points last season. Boshers also added an assist during the 2005 season.

Entering her senior season, Boshers ranks among the greatest scorers in school history as the native of Algonquin, Ill., ranks fourth all-time in points scored with 44 and and is fifth on the all-time list with 18 career goals.

Vick DuBose enters her senior season with 42 career appearances for the Bears. For her career, Vick Dubose has tallied three goals, including one game-winner, and three assists while starting in 19 contests.

FRESHMEN LEAD BAYLOR TO WIN IN OPENER
Freshman Amanda McGrath's first career goal proved to be the game-winner in Baylor's soccer season opener as the Bears downed Houston 1-0 in action at Betty Lou Mays Field.

Following a Baylor corner kick that was deflected by the Houston defense out to midfield, Missy McConnell tracked down the loose ball and connected with freshman Andi Fagan who had a clear run down the right side of the field.

Fagan managed to evade an on-coming defender and found McGrath in the middle of the box as the freshman easily forced the Houston goalie out of position and found the back of the net to give Baylor a 1-0 lead.

FIVE NEWCOMERS JOIN BAYLOR SQUAD
After adding 15 newcomers to the squad in 2004, Baylor welcomes only five newcomers to the 2005 edition of the Bears soccer team. Andi Fagan (Walnut, Calif.), Carolyn Lunch (Austin, Texas), Amanda McGrath (Sugar Land, Texas), Holly Meyer (Coeur d'Alene, Idaho) and Mollie Smith (Dallas, Texas) join the 2005 squad after outstanding high school careers.

Fagan was a first team selection at Walnut High School while helping lead the team to three consecutive CIF-SS championships. Lynch, who comes to Baylor from McNeil High School, was a four-year letterwinner and earned all-state honors her senior season.

McGrath, who will likely start at forward in Baylor's season opener, comes to the Bears after helping lead St. Agnes Academy to three consecutive district championships and earning all-state honors after her junior and sophomore years.

Meyer, who holds her high school's school record in the 100-meter and 300-meter hurdles, scored 28 goals and tallied 13 assists for Lake City while earning first-team all-state honors her senior season.

Smith joins Baylor after earning four letters in soccer at the Episcopal School of Dallas, where she played for three seasons with current Bears player Laura Brock. A two-time all-SPC selection, Smith lead her team to the Division II SPC title her senior year.

SOPHOMORES DOMINATE 2005 BAYLOR ROSTER
One glimpse at the 2005 Baylor soccer roster and it is easy to see the Bears sophomore class will play a huge role in determining the success of this year's team. Six sophomores are slated to start for Baylor in the home opener, including defender Megan Sherrell and goalie Ashley Holder.

Sherrell, who was one of five Baylor players to start and play in every game in 2005, returns after being named to the 2004 Big 12 Conference All-Newcomer Team. Holder, who led the Big 12 Conference last season in saves per game, returns to the Bears after making 98 saves from a season ago.

In addition to Sherrell and Holder, Jessica Hutton, Margret Kaderli, Shea Yates, Gentry Sharp, Rose Zapata, Pat Roscovius and Shannon Smith return for their sophomore campaigns after seeing significant playing time as freshman.

BAYLOR'S TOP SEVEN SCORERS IN 2004 RETURN FOR 2005
With a young team in 2004, it is no surprise Baylor returns many of its leading scorers from a year ago. In fact, Baylor returns its top eight point scorers from the 2004 season. After leading the team with 19 points last season, Tiffany Boshers returns for her senior season to lead the Bears.

Anna Schuch, who ranked second on the team in points and was tied for the team lead in assists, also returns after earning Big 12 Conference all-newcomer honors last season.

Jennifer Martin (2G, 5A), Margaret Kaderli (4G), Jessica Hutton (4G), Brittani Zonker (2G, 3A) and Missy McConnell (2G, 1A) round out the top seven scorers from 2004 and all return for the 2005 season.

BETTY LOU MAYS FIELD
The 2005 season marks the seventh year for the Baylor soccer team at Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field. The former Baylor Soccer Stadium was named during the 2000 season in honor of the late Betty Lou Mays of Amarillo, Texas. Mrs. Mays was the wife of Troy Mays, a 1945 graduate of Baylor; the two were longtime supporters of Baylor Athletics.

Betty Lou Mays Soccer Field is set in the plush backdrop of the Brazos River on University Parks Drive. The field is part of the Jim and Julie Turner Riverfront Athletic Park, which includes Baylor Ballpark, Getterman Stadium and the Baylor Tennis Center. All four venus share the parking lot with the Ferrell Special Events Center.

NEXT TIME OUT
Baylor will hit the road for the first time in 2005 as the Bears travel to Fort Worth, Texas, to play in the TCU Invitational. Baylor will open play at the tournament when the Bears face Northwestern State at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 9.
