Waco, Texas -- After a light workout at Floyd Casey Stadium on Wednesday, August 10, the Baylor women's soccer team opened two-a-day practices on Thursday in preparation for the 2005 season opener against Houston.
The preseason practices, along with an exhibition game at Arkansas on Saturday, August 20, will lead up to the Bears season opener against the Cougars at 7:00 p.m. on August 26, at Betty Lou Mays Field.
"We are extremely excited about the start of the 2005 season," head coach George Van Linder said. "Everybody on the team is excited to get back to campus and get started with practice. We return most of last year's team and the experience should help us throughout the year."
The Bears return 21 letter-winners and eight starters from last year's 7-9-2 squad, including leading point-scorer and senior forward Tiffany Boshers. In addition, Baylor returns sophomore defender Megan Sherrell and junior midfielder Anna Schuch, who each earned a spot on the Big 12 Conference All-Newcomer team last season.
Fans interested in purchasing 2005 Baylor soccer single-game or season tickets can contact the Baylor Ticket Office at 710-1000 or 1-800-BAYLOR-U.
