WACO, Texas - Baylor track & field/cross country athlete Brittany Brockman (Houston, Texas) was named to the CoSIDA ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District VI First Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Friday.

Brockman, a first-team academic All-Big 12 selection in both track & field and cross country this year, was nominated with a 3.76 grade-point average as a health & science studies major and was the only underclassman selected to the first team. She recorded the second-fastest time in the Big 12 this season in the 10,000 meters at 33:46.98, an automatic qualifying time for next week's NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Sacramento, Calif. She also finished as the runner-up in the event at the conference championships to earn All-Big 12 honors for the third time this season.

During the indoor season, Brockman finished fourth in the 5,000 meters and seventh in the 3,000 meters at the Big 12 Championships to earn All-Big 12 honors in both events. She was also a standout during the cross country season, earning All-South Central Region honors by finishing third at the regional championships. Brockman was the Bears' top finisher in all seven meets and helped the women make their second straight NCAA Championships appearance.

Brockman is a two-time All-Big 12 performer in cross country, finishing eighth overall as a freshman and 13th as a sophomore at the conference championships. She also earned a spot on the United States' Junior World Cross Country Championships squad.

The nominees are submitted by each school's sports information offices and voted on by district CoSIDA members. First-team honorees, such as Brockman, will now be submitted for Academic All-America consideration.

Brockman will take her shot at the NCAA Championship in the 10,000 meters Thursday, June 9 at 10 p.m. PDT.
