CARSON, Calif. - Former Baylor athletes Jeremy Wariner (Arlington, Texas) and Darold Williamson (San Antonio, Texas) claimed the top two spots in the 400 meters at the United States Track & Field Championships Saturday at the Home Depot Center.

Wariner reclaimed his title in the event, recording the fastest time in the world so far this season at 44.20, while Williamson came in at 44.62. By virtue of finishing in the top three, the training partners qualify for the World Track & Field Championships Aug. 6-14 in Helsinki, Finland.

Wariner won the gold medal in the 400 meters at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, then handed the baton to Williamson as members of the U.S. gold-medal 4x400-meter relay team. Williamson, the 2005 NCAA champion in the 400 meters, came into the meet with the nation's top time and two victories over Wariner.

Other former Bears competing include April Holliness, who finished seventh in the long jump, and Lakadron Ivery, who qualified for the semifinals in both the 100 and 200 meters.
