Track & Field 6/14/2005 12:00:00 AM

June 14, 2005

Todd Patulski, Associate AD/Finance and Administration
Opening statement:
"First and foremost, after 42 years of coaching at Baylor University, we have convinced coach Clyde Hart to postpone any retirement and stay with us in the new role of Director of Track and Field. He will start that immediately and will stay on board and coach 400-meter athletes, Baylor athletes and world-class athletes. On top of that, he is such a wonderful administrator and ambassador to our university and athletic department that it is exciting for us to know that he will stay on board.

"Secondly, we would like to announce the promotion of Todd Harbour, one of Baylor's all-time great athletes and one of the most successful coaches, who will continue to lead a successful track and field and cross country program as the next track and field head coach at Baylor University."

Clyde Hart, Baylor Director of Track and Field
Opening statement:
"I think this is a great moment for Baylor. I want to congratulate Todd (Harbour) because I think he is going to do a wonderful job. I want to congratulate Baylor for this selection because I think the future of Baylor track and field is in great hands.

"In regards to my future, I think it is a sort of a dream job and that is because I just get to coach. I do not have to go out and recruit and get home at midnight or early in the morning and have to get up and go to work the next day. I can let these younger guys do the day-to-day work now and let them have their turn. I never intended to stay this long when I got this job and I think this will allow me to stay on and do some things that I want to do. With the athletes that are still out there, they are going to keep me busy. I am going to stay on here and work with some of the Baylor 400-meter runners and I will do that as long as I feel I am doing the job and as long as Todd (Harbour) wants me to do it.

"Again, I just want to say that these 42 years have gone really fast. Todd (Harbour) has got a great situation and I know that he will do a great job. He is a great competitor, a great individual and a fine Christian young man. It's a program that's going to be in some great hands."

Todd Harbour, Baylor Track and Field Head Coach
Opening statement:
"Coming to work this morning it was one of those days that I had excitement and disappointment and a flood of emotions as I drove into work. I cannot put into words what Coach Hart has meant to this program and to me as an individual.

"This is something we knew as a staff was coming for awhile and it's not completely a day where I am rejoicing because I have got to step into these huge shoes that he has left. There is a little sadness as well, knowing that I will not see him in the office every day and how much he has meant to us as a head coach. He has coached every single one of us on the staff and I do not think there is a staff in the country that is close to that. That says a lot about the man and what he stands for. Coach Hart has been my hero and I know there are a lot of people in this room that would share those feelings as well.

"I accept this position with tremendous humility and tremendous honor. To be in the shoes that I am now to take over for one of the greatest, if not the greatest, track and field coaches in Baylor history. I have had some time to think about this. I believe the Lord has some battles out there for us to win. I know that is what Coach Hart wants to do as a staff. We have got some battles to fight and some battles to win and I am tremendously honored to be in this position today.

"I appreciate this opportunity. I would like to thank the administration for their confidence in me and I would like to recognize my wife, Cindy, and my three sons, Jonathan, Stephen and Aaron. I would like to thank our coaches because the program is in good hands with this group. I do not think there is a person in here that would say that the Lord has not favored Coach Hart and this program. We are excited Coach Hart will remain and we look forward to the challenges ahead."
