Baylor will compete at the 2005 NCAA Midwest Regional Track & Field Championships hosted by Oklahoma Friday and Saturday, May 27-28, at John Jacobs Track & Field Complex in Norman, Okla.

The Bears will send 21 athletes, 14 women and seven men in 17 events, looking to advance to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships June 8-11 in Sacramento, Calif. The top five finishers in each event will move on to the NCAA Championships.

Sophomore Brittany Brockman (Houston, Texas) is the only Baylor athlete assured of a spot in the championships. Brockman clocked an automatic qualifying time of 33:45.98 in the 10,000 meters, the only event besides the decathlon and hepthathlon where athletes do not have to qualify through regional competition.

Senior Darold Williamson (San Antonio, Texas) has the second-fastest time in the country in the 400 meters, clocking 45.06 at the Michael Johnson Classic in April. Williamson has not lost an outdoor 400-meter race this season, including a pair of wins over Olympic gold medalist Jeremy Wariner. Senior Lakadron Ivery (Tyler, Texas) look to qualify in five events. Ivery finished second in the 100 meters, 200 meters and long jump at the Big 12 Championships and ran legs on the Bears' 4x100 and 4x400-meter relays, which both finished in the top three.

Preliminary action starts for the Bears Friday at 4 p.m. with the first running event, the women's 4x100-meter relay. Junior Chris Gillis (Pennsauken, N.J.), senior April Holliness (Duncanville, Texas) and Ivery compete in the long jump at 6 p.m. The final event for the Bears Friday will be Brockman running in the 5,000 meters at 8 p.m.
