DES MOINES, Iowa - The Baylor women's 4x200-meter relay squad of senior Lakadron Ivery (Tyler, Texas), freshman Carla Grace (San Antonio, Texas), senior Elizabeth Wilson (Duncanville, Texas) and junior Angel Perkins (Cerritos, Calif.) ran a time of 1:34.23 to edge Eastern Michigan for the title in the second day of the Drake Relays Friday at Drake Stadium.
The women's 4x100-meter relay of Perkins, senior April Holliness (Duncanville, Texas), Wilson and Ivery clocked a time of 45.18 for the fourth-fastest qualifying time for tomorrow's final. The 4x400 team of sophomore Rena Napoleon (Colorado Springs, Colo.), Ivery, Grace and Perkins also turned in the fourth-fastest qualifying time at 3:42.17.
The men's 4x400 relay of sophomores Kevin Mutai (Round Rock, Texas) and Mark Teter (San Antonio, Texas), junior Wil Fitts (Desoto, Texas) and senior Darold Williamson (San Antonio, Texas) posted the fastest qualifying time at 3:06.64.
In other women's action, Wilson ran the fastest qualifying time in the 100 meters at 11.62, while Holliness finished 17th in 11.93 in her tuneup for tomorrow's long jump.
The distance medley relay of freshman Lauren Hagans (Little Rock, Ark.), Napoleon, junior Shanta Bibbs (San Antonio, Texas) and sophomore Monique Ortega (El Paso, Texas) finished eighth, clocking 11:34.97. Freshman Brittany Devereaux (Denton, Texas) posted a mark of 46.49 meters (152-6) to place 13th in the discus. Freshman Lyndsy Bedell (Plano, Texas) ran 11:12.49 to finish 18th in the 3,000-meter steeplechase, while sophomore Lauren Tillman (Lawrenceville, Ga.) ran 62.31 to finish 20th in the 400-meter hurdles.
Junior Chris Gillis (Pennsauken, N.J.) finished sixth in the long jump with a leap of 7.57 meters (24-10).
The Drake Relays conclude Saturday.
