NORMAN, Okla. - The Baylor track and field teams recorded victories in eight events, including five on the women's side, for a strong showing at the John Jacobs Invitational hosted by Oklahoma Saturday at the John Jacobs Track & Field Complex.
Senior Lakadron Ivery (Tyler, Texas) won the 100 meters with a regional qualifying time of 11.55 and finished second in the 200 meters with a regional qualifying time of 23.54. Ivery also anchored the 4x100-meter relay to a victory and regional qualifying time of 44.64.
Junior Angel Perkins (Cerritos, Calif.) won the 400 meters with a regional qualifying time of 53.54 and anchored the 4x400-meter relay to a win and a regional qualifying time of 3:31.84. Senior April Holliness (Duncanville, Texas) won the long jump with a regional qualifying mark of 6.43 meters (21-1 ¼).
On the men's side, junior Jerome Miller (Houston, Texas) won the 110-meter hurdles with a regional qualifying time of 13.95, and finished third in the 400-meter hurdles with a regional qualifying time of 52.50. Senior Chris Gillis (Pennsauken, N.J.) won the long jump with a season-best and regional qualifying effort of 7.58 (24-10 ½). The 4x400-meter relay of sophomores Mark Teter (San Antonio, Texas), Kevin Mutai (Round Rock, Texas), junior Wil Fitts (Desoto, Texas) and senior Darold Williamson (San Antonio, Texas) bounced back with a victory and regional qualifying time of 3:05.46.
Fitts took third in the 800 meters with a regional qualifying time of 1:48.13, while Mutai finished fifth in the 400 meters with a time of 47.58. Williamson finished fifth in the 200 meters with a time of 21.27, while freshman Jeremy Jackson (Round Rock, Texas) finished sixth in the 110-meter hurdles at 14.62. In the 1,500 meters, sophomore Mitch Sanders (Katy, Texas) finished second in 3:48.33, while junior Bo Price (Atlanta, Texas) took fifth in 3:55.19.
Sophomore Chris Cardwell (Abilene, Texas) broke his own school record to finish second in the hammer throw with a mark of 48.91 meters (160-5).
On the women's side, senior Elizabeth Wilson (Duncanville, Texas) finished third in the 100 meters with a regional qualifying time of 11.69 and third in the 200 meters with a regional qualifying time of 23.80. Freshman Lauren Hagans (Little Rock, Ark.) finished third with a regional mark of 2:08.53. Junior Janelle Mulkey (San Antonio, Texas) finished third in the 100-meter hurdles in 14.33, while sophomore Lauren Tillman (Lawrenceville, Ga.) finished third in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:02.22. Freshman Brittany Devereaux (Denton, Texas) broke a 30-year old school record and posted a regional qualifying mark by finishing third in the discus at 48.20 meters (158-2). Suzie Snider held the old mark of 156-11 set in 1975.
The Bears return to action when they host the Michael Johnson Classic Saturday, April 23, at Hart-Patterson Track & Field Complex.
