MARLIN, Texas - Trent Shelton, Ryan Jeffrey, Paul Mosley, Phil Tran, Geoff Nelson, Will Blaylock, Lee Chandler, Chris Rogers, Jake Reichenstein and Yancy Boatner, members of the Baylor football team, attended a community-wide bicycle race in Marlin Saturday. The race was to raise awareness for the new recreational facilities fundraiser.
Buck Rogers, a counselor at Marlin Elementary, coordinated the event. The bicycle race focus was youth recreation and keeping the children active throughout their career in school and life.
"The kids were so excited when I told them Baylor football players were coming," he said.
The players spoke with the children after they finished the race and signed autographs.
A Marlin resident said, "We are so appreciative the boys came out and were willing to spend time with the kids. It means so much to them."
After a raffle, Jeffrey, Mosley and Shelton addressed the crowd.
Shelton told the kids, "Enjoy the time you have now with your parents because once you to go to college, you won't be able to se them as much."
"Always work hard at whatever you are doing, but most importantly, have fun," Mosley added.
After the event, the children and athletes threw passes and played football.
