Baylor junior Sophia Young and senior Steffanie Blackmon have been named two of 48 finalists for the Division I Kodak Women's All-American Basketball Team the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) and The Eastman Kodak company announced today. WBCA member coaches in each of the eight WBCA geographical dristricts voted on the teams.
The 10-member Kodak/WBCA All-America Basketball Team will be announced at a press conference at the Westin Hotel on April 2, 2005 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Young, MVP of the Big 12 Conference Tournament and a first-team All-Big 12 selection, ranks among the league's leaders in points, rebounds, field goal percentage and steals and leads Baylor in those same areas. The 6-1 forward is averaging 17.4 points and 9.4 rebounds a game, shoots 52.7 percent from the floor and has 56 steals, 25 blocks and 83 assists to her credit.
Blackmon, a 6-2 post, is also among the league's leaders in scoring and rebounding and is Baylor's all-time shot blocker with 156. The Dallas native was named first-team All-Big 12 and was named to the all-tournament team at the Big 12 Conference Tournament. She averages 15.7 points and 8.4 rebounds a game and leads the team in blocked shots with 26 on the season.
Both Young and Blackmon are Wooden Award, Naismith Trophy and Wade Trophy finalists.
