FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. - Baylor senior Darold Williamson (San Antonio, Texas) ran 46.26 to finish fourth and earn All-America honors on the final day of the NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships Saturday at Randal Tyson Track Center.
Williamson earned All-American status individually for the eighth time in his career, the most ever by a Baylor track athlete, breaking a tie with Deon Minor at seven. The Olympic gold-medalist was fourth at the 200-meter mark, when he got tangled with LSU's Kelly Willie around the turn and never recovered.
Williamson led the Bears' 4x400-meter relay to another come-from-behind victory in their heat with a season-best time of 3:04.72; however Baylor finished second overall to earn All-America honors. Florida won the final heat and the national title with a time of 3:03.51, breaking the previous NCAA record of 3:03.96 held by the 2004 Baylor squad. Williamson, who now has 13 total (individual and relay) All-America honors to his credit, was joined on the relay by sophomores Mark Teter (San Antonio, Texas) and Kevin Mutai (Round Rock, Texas) and junior Wil Fitts (DeSoto, Texas).
The women's 4x400 relay of freshman Carla Grace (San Antonio, Texas), senior Lakadron Ivery (Tyler, Texas) and Danielle Myricks (Willingboro, N.J.) and junior Angel Perkins (Cerritos, Calif.) finished third with a new school record time of 3:32.26 to earn All-America honors.
In the team standings the men finished 18th with 13 points, while the women tied for 33rd with six.
The Bears open up the outdoor season by hosting the Baylor Dr Pepper Invitational Saturday, March 26, at Hart-Patterson Track & Field Complex.
