#8/9 BAYLOR VS. #12/12 TEXAS TECH...
The 8th-ranked Baylor Lady Bears, 16-3 on the season and 6-2 in league action, will travel to Lubbock, Texas, to take on 12th-ranked and Big 12 co-leader Texas Tech on Saturday, Feb. 5 at the United Spirit Arena. The Lady Raiders, winners of 10 of their last 11 games, enter the contest at 16-3 overall and sport a 7-1 Big 12 Conference record, tied for the league lead with Iowa State.

Baylor comes into the game having won 16 of its last 18 games. After opening the season with a 71-70 loss to then-No. 3 and currently No. 1 LSU, Baylor posted consecutive wins over Indiana (60-47), Mississippi State (66-49), Sam Houston State (84-53), Rice (77-65), Jackson State (73-56), East Carolina (80-59), back-to-back Big Ten champion Penn State (91-70), Washington (74-58), Florida (89-62), Montana State (92-47), Texas A&M (64-50) and No. 7 Texas (63-60) before falling at Nebraska 103-99 in triple overtime. The Lady Bears got back on the winning track by defeating the University of Oklahoma (78-68) in Waco on Sunday, Jan. 16 but fell to Texas (69-55) in Austin on Jan. 22. Most recently, Baylor posted a 74-52 victory in Waco over Texas A&M, eeked out a 67-65 win at Oklahoma State and downed No. 15 Kansas State, 72-62, on Wednesday in the Ferrell Center.

Baylor is off to its best-ever Big 12 start at 6-2. The Lady Bears posted 5-3 records over their first eight league games in 2001-02, 2002-03 and 2003-04.

National Player of the Year candidates Sophia Young and Steffanie Blackmon lead the team in both scoring and rebounding with Young averaging 17.1 points and 9.7 rebounds and Blackmon right behind with 16.1 points and 7.9 rebounds.

For the fourth time this season a team comes into a Saturday matchup with Baylor having had a Wednesday Big 12 bye. Texas Tech, 16-3 on the season and 7-1 in Big 12, play joins Oklahoma State, Oklahoma and Texas as having a midweek league bye before taking on the Lady Bears. The 12th-ranked Texas Tech Lady Raiders have won 10 of their last 11 contests and two straight. Texas Tech's lone Big 12 blemish was a 55-53 home loss to Kansas State on Jan. 22. Their other two losses this season have come at the hands of Stanford (61-58) and an overtime loss to Virginia Tech (77-70). The Red Raiders are 11-1 in the United Spirit Arena this season.

Four Red Raiders score in double-digits on the season. Sophomore forward Alesha Robertson leads the Lady Raiders in scoring with 14.7 points a game. Senior Cisti Greenwalt, a 6-5 center, scores 14.1 a game and leads the team in rebounding with 10.1 an outing. Junior guard Chesley Dabbs scores 14.0 a game and junior forward/center LaToya Davis averages 11.8 a game.

The Baylor-Texas Tech game features the league's top two rebounders. Texas Tech's Cisti Greenwalt leads the Big 12 Conference in sweeping the boards at 10.1 a game and BU's Sophia Young ranks No. 2 with 9.7 a contest.

BAYLOR IN BIG 12 ACTION...
The 2004-05 season marks the ninth year of competition for women's basketball in the Big 12 Conference. Baylor has a record of 72-64 in Big 12 games. However, in Kim Mulkey-Robertson's four years, Baylor is 45-27 in Big 12 play and has never posted a losing conference record.

THE SERIES RECORD...
The Feb. 5 Baylor-Texas Tech contest marks the 58th meeting between the two squads. Texas Tech owns a 45-12 series lead. The two teams met three times last season, Texas Tech won the first two (64-63 in Lubbock, 62-59 in Waco) and Baylor posted an eight-point win (80-72) on March 10 in the second round of the Big 12 Tournament in Dallas.

Baylor head coach Kim Mulkey-Robertson is 4-6 versus Texas Tech, 0-4 in Lubbock.

THE LAST MEETING...
At Reunion Arena in Dallas last season Baylor posted an 80-72 win in the second round of the Big 12 Tournament. Sophia Young led all scorers and rebounders in the contest with a 26-point, 13 rebound performance. Tech's LaToya Davis also recorded a double-double with 24 points and 11 rebounds.

Baylor shot an impressive 50.8 percent from the floor and scored 24 points off 17 Red Raider turnovers. Texas Tech dominated the boards in the contest outrebounding the Lady Bears 38-33.
