LINCOLN, Neb. - Baylor senior Darold Williamson (San Antonio, Texas) won his second career indoor 400-meter conference title and fifth overall with a time of 46.74 at the 2005 Big 12 Indoor Track & Field Championships Saturday at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Track. The Bears also claimed the title in the 4x400-meter relay and senior Elizabeth Wilson (Duncanville, Texas) won the 200 meters.

Williamson won the 2002 championship as a freshman, was injured as a sophomore and finished second to teammate Jeremy Wariner last year. The Bears have won 10 indoor conference titles in the 400 meters, five since the Big 12 began competition in 1997, including three of the last four years. Sophomore Mark Teter (San Antonio, Texas) finished third in the 400 with a time of 47.72.

Williamson, the anchor on the United States' gold-medal 4x400-meter relay at the Olympics, proved once again why he is the best 400 anchor in the world, running a 45.00 split and leading the Bears from behind to claim their eighth straight Big 12 indoor title in the 4x400. Teter ran leadoff, followed by junior Wil Fitts (Desoto, Texas) and sophomore Kevin Mutai (Round Rock, Texas) for a time of 3:07.17, just ahead of Texas Tech at 3:07.42.

Wilson continued her breakout meet with a shocking victory in the 200 meters by setting the school record at 23.53. Senior Lakadron Ivery (Tyler, Texas), the former record holder, was disqualified. Ivery finished fourth in the 60 meters, running 7.40, while Wilson finished sixth in 7.49.

The women's 4x400-meter relay of freshman Carla Grace (San Antonio, Texas), Ivery, senior Danielle Myricks (Willingboro, N.J.) and junior Angel Perkins (Cerritos, Calif.) finished second with a season-best time of 3:37.64, just .28 behind Texas. The finish broke a tie for third in the overall point standings with Texas Tech.

Junior Shanta Bibbs (San Antonio, Texas) finished second in the 600 yards with a time of 1:21.83, while sophomore Lauren Tillman (Lawrenceville, Ga.) took third with a time of 1:22.70. On the men's side junior Fitts finished third with a time of 1:10.27, and Mutai finished sixth in 1:10.41.

Junior Jerome Miller (Houston, Texas) was edged out in the 60-meter hurdles, finishing second with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 7.87. Nebraska's Nenar Loncar won the event in 7.86. Junior Janelle Mulkey (San Antonio, Texas) finished sixth in the 60-meter hurdles, clocking an 8.60. Myricks finished seventh in the 400 meters with a time of 54.97.

Freshman Lauren Hagans (Little Rock, Ark.) took sixth in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:53.25, while freshman Danielle Elliott (Waco, Texas) finished sixth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:22.50.

Senior Jessa Chance (Southlake, Texas) finished fourth in the 3,000 meters with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 9:34.63, while sophomore Brittany Brockman (Houston, Texas) earned her second All-Big 12 honor of the weekend by finishing seventh in the 3,000 with a time of 9:37.12. Freshman Lyndsy Bedell (Plano, Texas) finished 15th in 9:58.34, sophomore Brittany McGuire (Humble, Texas) finished 18th in 10:03.67 and freshman Alissa McKaig (New Haven, Ind.) finished 28th in 10:17.23.

In the men's 3,000, senior Matt Chance (Grapevine, Texas) finished 18th in 8:22.96, sophomore Cody Wells (Crawford, Texas) finished 22nd in 8:27.23 and junior Rob Morrow (Grapevine, Texas) finished 43rd in 8:44.81.

The women finished third in the final standings behind Nebraska and Texas with 74 points, while the men finished ninth with 46 points.

Some members of the team will compete in the Last Chance Meet hosted by Iowa State March 5 in Ames, Iowa, before the NCAA qualifiers compete at the 2005 NCAA Indoor Championships March 11-12 in Fayetteville, Ark.
