WACO, Texas - Baylor's No. 35 women's tennis team defeated the No. 7 Clemson Tigers Saturday at the Baylor Tennis Center in their first home match of the spring.
After a 20 minute rain delay, the Bears took the court and began singles action at 1:27p.m. Baylor's No. 92 Zuzana Cerna quickly put down No. 97 Daniela Alvarez winning the first point for Baylor 6-0, 6-1.
Zuzana Krchnakova took the next win for Baylor defeating Clemson's Carol Salge 6-4, 6-0. Next, Klara Zrustova and Iva Mihaylova posted wins three and four for the Bears ensuring the win.
Zuzana Zemenova was deep into the third set against No. 5 Julie Coin when the match was called for rain. Zemenova and Coin did not finish their neck-in-neck 6-2, 2-6, 5-5 match. Play was also ended between Baylor's Daniela Covello and No. 114 Maria Brito with a score of 6-3, 4-6, 5-3.
Doubles did not play due to the rain.
The bears will return to action next weekend when they face Pepperdine in Waco and the Baylor Tennis Center Saturday at 2:00 p.m.
