We left off after the Georgia game and were getting ready to start the home game season! Everyone was excited about getting to see the banners and all the fans again. We weren't sure what to expect but while we were warming up we heard a warning about a firework display, so that made us extra curious. The banners were unfurled and there really was a little light show, everyone was pumped up by time we finally tipped the ball off.
It was a pretty tough game in all, we made runs and they made runs. It was an intense game and both teams played very hard. By half time we realized what we had to do to win the game and the second half was much better for us. Especially, since we got in some minor foul trouble during the first half.
After the game, the men's team had a scrimmage and we got to watch a little bit of it, as well as the dunk contest. But we couldn't stay long because our plane to Indiana was waiting at the Texas Aero terminal at the airport. We had enough time to jump in the shower, put on some comfy clothes and head that way. All the girls had brought their laptops so we could watch film on Indiana on the way. So we all attempted to fight the urge to sleep and run through some film and the scouting report. As soon as my little DVD was over I definitely got a head start on my nights sleep.
We checked into the hotel pretty late but there was no problem falling asleep. Breakfast was pushed back so we could sleep in a bit. The next day was a different feeling, trying to get up and get going with not much to do in Indiana. We had a shoot around at about noon and saw all the fans getting ready for their rivalry football game there against Purdue. There were RVs and charter buses everywhere and students walking the streets, a real college town atmosphere. Unfortunately, when we were trying to get to the game later that night, we got stuck in some post game traffic. Usually around an hour before the game we are on the court, shooting around. However, due to traffic we were sitting on the bus still, with a backed up traffic jam filled with head on traffic staring right at us. It wasn't too bad, just a minor set back for us! The game was kind of sloppy for the most part but, I think we kind of expected it. What we didn't expect though is the amount of foul trouble we got into early in the first half. We had five people on the bench at one point with two fouls each and no way to get back in the game cause we didn't want to risk picking up more fouls. But we overcame the traffic jam and we overcame the foul trouble. It was a lesson learned in finding a way to win even being in that type of situation. We headed home on another late trip which was very conducive to sleeping, especially after the weekend we just had.
We took Sunday off and then got to work on handling Texas A&M-Corpus Christi on Tuesday. They were a very athletic and competitive team and so we had to get our minds right to take it at them and understand they were going to be ready to take it straight at us. The game went by real quick but I think it was because we all had thoughts of Mexico on our mind. After the game we all went home finished packing (started for some people) and got ready for the long day of traveling ahead of us.
Well, I will leave you with that until Cancun of course and then I will be back to fill you in on our little vacation. Until next time.
