WACO, Texas - Baylor opened its 2005-2006 season with an intrasquad scrimmage and autograph session Friday night at the Ferrell Center. The Bears' black-jerseyed squad defeated the white jerseys 30-28 in the Centennial Tip-Off Scrimmage behind nine points from freshman guard Henry Dugat and eight points from junior forward Tim Bush.

The Bears, who will not tip off their regular season until Jan. 11 due to NCAA sanctions stemming from the previous coaching staff, gave fans a sneak peek at a new squad which includes six newcomers.

Senior guard Kevis Shipman led the white squad with eight points and two assists during the 20-minute scrimmage. Sophomore forward Richard Hurd added seven points for the white.

Following the scrimmage Scott Drew's Bears treated fans to a 3-point shooting contest and a dunk contest, after which the players and coaches signed autographs and posed for photographs with the fans. The event followed the Baylor women's opener, a 93-85 victory over UCLA which included the unfurling of the 2005 NCAA Championship banner.

The Centennial Tip-Off Scrimmage was the first in a series of events that will celebrate the program's centennial season, which will be highlighted by the naming of an All-Centennial Team.

The Bears open their season Jan. 11 at Texas Tech. The first home game is Jan. 14 when Baylor hosts Oklahoma State at the Ferrell Center.
