WACO, Texas - Baylor football players Desmond Jenkins and Phil Tran visited North Waco Elementary on Monday. The players spoke to a group of 4th and 5th grade students about the importance of education and goal setting.

Jenkins, a red-shirt freshman from Trinidad, talked with three boys in Marti Turner's 5th grade class. He stressed the importance of making good grades and always trying their best in school. Later, the rest of the class joined the group and Jenkins handed out autographed schedule cards.

Mrs. Speegle's 4th grade class asked Phil Tran many questions about the football team and balancing his busy schedule. Tran encouraged the students to plan ahead and devote time to their school work.

"By working hard now and building upon your foundation of knowledge, I believe all of you will go to college and be successful," said Tran.

Before Tran left, he played football with the students and passed out autographed schedule cards.

The school visit is just one example of how Baylor athletes and coaches are involved in the Waco community. For more information, please contact Ray DeWeese at (254) 710-3073.
