WACO, Texas - Baylor football players Phil Tran and Paul Mosley visited Dean Highland Elementary on Wednesday during Red Ribbon Week. Red Ribbon Week stresses the importance of living a drug-free life. The players spoke to the 3rd grade to promote healthy lifestyles and talk about the dangers of doing drugs.

Phil Tran discussed the hard work and determination it took to get to where he is today. He told the students if they want to be successful, they have to stay focused and have a strong work ethic.

Tran said that, "if you want to play sports in high school and college, you can't do drugs because it will negatively affect your performance and you will get suspended."

Paul Mosley asked the students about the effects drugs can have on their lives. The students are learning about drugs during Red Ribbon Week and responded by mentioning all the illnesses that drugs can cause.

Mosley stated that, "if you want to go somewhere in life, you can't have drugs in your life."

He also added that, "in the future, you will be in situations where you are pressured to use drugs and alcohol and you just have to say no."

The players then took the kids outside for a game of football. All of the students received autographed posters and were taught the "Sic `em Bears" yell at the conclusion of the assembly.

The school visit is just one example of how Baylor athletes and coaches are involved in the Waco community. For more information, please contact Ray DeWeese at (254) 710-3073.
