WACO, Texas - Baylor football players Phil Tran and Lee Chandler visited Speegleville Elementary on Monday. The players visited the school to promote literacy and to talk to the students about college.

Lee Chandler read a children's book to Ms. DeHay's kindergarten class. He also talked about doing well in school and listening to one's teachers and parents.

Phil Tran read a book of poems and a Dr. Seuss book to Ms. Burr and Ms. Morgan's 4th grade classes. Afterward, the students asked Tran plenty of questions about college life.

When asked how hard college is, Tran responded, "it is not that difficult if you work hard in elementary, intermediate, and high school because by then, you will be fully prepared for college."

Ms. Hancock, the librarian at Speegleville Elementary, said that the students really enjoyed having the players visit and read to them.

All of the students and teachers received autographed schedule cards and posters from the players before they left.

The school visit is just one example of how Baylor athletes and coaches are involved in the Waco community. For more information, please contact Ray DeWeese at (254) 710-3073.
