WACO, Texas - Baylor place kicker Ryan Havens was named Big 12 Conference Special Teams Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday morning. Havens was honored along with Chris Filani of Texas Tech on offense and Brian Smith of Missouri on defense. Each is a first-time recipient of the conference's weekly honor.

Havens, a junior from Permian High School in Odessa, Texas, made good on all three field goal attempts, establishing a career high, and both extra point attempts in Baylor's 23-13 victory at Iowa State, the Bears' first ever Big 12 road win. Included in his three field goals was a career-long 49-yarder, the longest field goal at Baylor since 2001. Of Havens' six kickoffs, four went for touchbacks, and Iowa State's average starting field position after Baylor kickoffs was its own 22 yard line.

Through five games, Havens has connected on 11 of 15 field goal attempts (73.3 percent) and all 13 extra point attempts. Havens already is tied for ninth on Baylor's single-season field goals made list and needs just seven more to match Jeff Ireland's school record of 18 set in 1989.

Baylor returns to action Saturday, Oct. 15, hosting Nebraska for a 6 p.m. CDT kickoff at Floyd Casey Stadium.
