WACO, Texas - After wins in Saturday's semifinals, Baylor's Lars Poerschke and Matt Brown will face off in the championship match of the HEB Baylor Invitational on Sunday, Oct. 2 at the Baylor Tennis Center. Poerschke and Jon Reckewey will play in the championship doubles match as well.

Poerschke, a sophomore and the tournament's top seed, has breezed through play, never playing more than two sets. Brown defeated teammate Reckewey in three sets to advance to face Poerschke.

Poerschke, currently ranked No. 25 nationally, handily defeated TCU's Radu Barbu 6-4, 6-2 in the quarterfinals and then defeated Andrey Kumantsov of Texas A&M-CC 6-4, 6-2 in the semifinals. Reckewey played both of his matches to three sets on Friday then duplicated that same feat on Saturday but with different results. In quarterfinal action, Reckewey upset third-seeded Raul Rivas of Texas A&M-CC 6-7(4), 6-4, 6-3 before losing to Baylor teammate Brown 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 in the semifinals. Prior to beating Reckewey, Brown a freshman, posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over Texas' Michael Venus.

Poerschke and Reckewey downed their two Saturday opponents by identical 8-3 scores. The duo posted a quarterfinal victory over Thaigo Espirito Santo and Thaigo Dos Santos of Wichita State then defeated UTSA's Hector Chaves and Adam Becker. They will face Hubert Chodkiewicz and Michael Venus of Texas in the championship match. Brown and Portnov were eliminated in the quarterfinals when they dropped an 8-6 decision to UTA's Sandy Farquharson and Daniel Omana.

Baylor junior Vladimir Portnov will play in the green flight consolation championship match against Hubert Chodkiewicz of Texas. Portnov's Saturday matches were cut short when both opponents, Muhamed Dakki (TAMU) and Diego Mattar (UTA), retired.

Singles championship matches will begin at 8 a.m. on Sunday.
