#3/5 BAYLOR VS. #7/7 TEXAS...
The 3rd-ranked Baylor Lady Bears, 11-1 on the season, will put their 6-0 home record on the line when they play their first Big 12 Conference home game of the 2004-05 season. The Lady Bears host the seventh-ranked Texas Longhorns on Sat., Jan. 8 at 12 p.m. in a FSN Southwest televised game.

This will be the first meeting between the two teams where Baylor is the higher-ranked team. In addition, this marks the highest-ever meeting in the Ferrell Center by two ranked opponents.

Baylor comes into the game at 11-1 and riding an 11-game win streak, its longest since a 12-game string to open the 2001-02 season. After opening the season with a 71-70 loss to then-No. 3 and now top-ranked LSU, Baylor has posted wins over Indiana (60-47), Mississippi State (66-49), Sam Houston State (84-53), Rice (77-65), Jackson State (73-56), East Carolina (80-59), back-to-back Big Ten champion Penn State (91-70), Washington (74-58), Florida (89-62), Montana State (92-47) and Texas A&M (64-50). National Player of the Year candidates Sophia Young and Steffanie Blackmon lead the team in both scoring and rebounding with Young averaging 16.3 points and 9.1 rebounds and Blackmon right behind with 16.2 points and 8.4 rebounds.

Texas enters the contest with an 8-3 record after posting a 66-51 victory over Kansas in its Big 12 opener. Texas' three losses have come at the hands of then-No. 5 ranked Georgia (78-64), UCLA (63-60) and 24th-ranked Rutgers (51-47).

Five National Player of the Year candidates meet on the court on Saturday - Baylor's Sophia Young (6-1, F) and Steffanie Blackmon (6-2,P) and Texas' Heather Schreiber (6-2, F), Jamie Carey (5-6, G) along with Tiffany Jackson (6-3, C). In addition, two Hall of Famers square off on the court as Texas' Jody Conradt and Baylor's Kim Mulkey-Robertson meet as head coaches for the 10th time. Conradt was inducted into the Women's Basketball Hall of Fame in 1999 while Mulkey-Robertson was inducted in 2000. Mulkey-Robertson holds a 5-4 edge in games between the two.

PROMOTIONS...
"Operation 10K" is in effect on Saturday, Jan. 8 when the Lady Bears take on the University of Texas Longhorns in the Ferrell Center.

"Operation 10K" is designed to help pack the stands with over 10,000 fans and break the record of 10,031 for a regular season game Lady Bear game. Baylor drew 10,031 when it hosted Oklahoma on Jan. 12, 2002.

To ease anticipated traffic congestion and parking problems, Baylor officials have arranged for a shuttle service to run continually from 10:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. from three Baylor pickup sites: the Marina, the Alumni Center and the Wiethorn Visitors Center.

In addition, Double R Burgers will be serving "Bevo Burgers for a Buck" outside the Ferrell Center

Fans who wear a gold shirt to the game will receive a Bear Buck good for $1 off selected Baylor concession items.

BAYLOR IN BIG 12 ACTION...
The 2004-05 season marks the ninth year of competition for women's basketball in the Big 12 Conference. Baylor has a record of 67-62 in Big 12 games. However, in Kim Mulkey-Robertson's four years, Baylor is 40-25 in Big 12 play and has never posted a losing conference record. 2000-01 - 9-7
2001-02 - 12-4
2002-03 - 8-8
2003-04 - 10-6
2004-05 - 1-0

DOUBLE TROUBLE...
The tandem of Steffanie Blackmon and Sophia Young in the paint has proven to be one of the most formidable inside duos in NCAA Division I. Last season the pair combined to average 32.3 points and 15.5 rebounds a game, which accounted for 39.7 percent of Baylor's scoring and rebounding. Over the past two seasons Blackmon has averaged 16.6 points and 7.5 rebounds while Young has scored 15.5 a game and hauled down 9.3 boards over that same span.

SCOUTING THE OPPONENT...
Seventh-ranked Texas enters the contest with an 8-3 record after posting a 66-51 victory over Kansas in its Big 12 opener. Texas' three losses have come at the hands of then-No. 5 ranked Georgia (78-64), UCLA (63-60) and 24th-ranked Rutgers (51-47). The Longhorns have posted wins over Penn State (84-69), then-No. 1 Tennessee (74-59), McNeese State (80-26), New Mexico (73-56), North Texas (79-54), UT-Arlington (69-24), Sam Houston State (83-33) and Kansas.

Texas' Jody Conradt is in her 36th year overall as a head coach and her 29th season as the Longhorns' head coach. She is 855-272 for her career and is 738-210 at Texas. Conradt, a 1963 graduate of Baylor University, ranks No 2 in all-time women's basketball victories.

THE SERIES RECORD...
The Jan. 8 Baylor-Texas contest marks the 66th meeting between the two squads. Texas holds a 51-14 series lead over Baylor and has won four of the last five games, including two straight. Prior to that Baylor had posted four straight wins over the Longhorns. The two teams split regular season games last season with Baylor winning in Waco (78-64) and Texas posting a 73-72 double overtime win in Austin. The third and final meeting of the season the Longhorns edged the Lady Bears in the Big 12 Tournament semifinals, 63-59.
