WACO, Texas - Baylor senior quarter-miler Darold Williamson (San Antonio, Texas) is featured on the cover of the current issue (Feb. 2005) of Track & Field News.
Williamson is labeled on the cover as "Baylor's Latest NCAA 400 Favorite," reminiscent of the Bears' history of sprint champions Jeremy Wariner, Brandon Couts, Deon Minor, Michael Johnson and Raymond Pierre.
Williamson was the anchor on the United States' gold-medal 4x400-meter relay at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens, Greece, and anchored both Baylor's NCAA indoor and outdoor champion 4x400-meter relays last year. Williamson has captured three NCAA relay titles overall and is a four-time All-American in the open 400 meters.
The latest Trackwire 25 was also released Tuesday with the men tying for 17th and the women tying for 20th. The Trackwire 25 is a hypothetical scoring of the NCAA Indoor Championships.
