WACO, Texas -- The Baylor soccer team opened up a 2-0 lead on Wisconsin in the finale of the Nike Tiger Invitational, however, could not hold on as the Badgers rallied to a 3-2 victory over the Bears. With the loss, Baylor falls to 1-2-1 on the season as Wisconsin remained perfect with a record of 4-0.
Anna Schuch put the Bears on top early with a goal in the 11th minute. The forward made a move to beat a defender and then blasted the ball past the goalkeeper for her second goal of the tournament as Baylor grabbed a 1-0 lead.
Jessica Hutton extended the Bears lead to 2-0 in the 38th minute, as her shot trickled past Wisconsin goalkeeper Lynn Murray after she lost a grip on the ball for her first goal of the season.
Despite the lead, Wisconsin managed to tie the game off the play of Marla Froelich. Froelich cut the lead to 2-1 when she scored from the top of the box in the 39th minute.
The forward then tied the game with a goal in the 60th minute, as she took a pass and was able to slide the ball past Baylor goalie Ashley Holder to make the score 2-2. Neither team managed to put in the game-winner during regulation as the Bears headed into overtime for the second time in three games.
After neither team had a good scoring chance for most of the first overtime frame, Allison Preiss ended the game as her desperation shot with one second left found its way into the back of the net as the Badgers won 3-2.
For the game, Baylor held an 18-12 edge on shots as well as a 6-1 edge on corner kicks.
Murray made five saves to record the victory as Holder took the loss for the Bears.
Baylor will look to rebound from the heart-breaking loss when BU returns to action on Friday, Sept. 10, when the Bears host TCU at 7:00 p.m. at Betty Lou Mays Field.
